Great site! Just decided to look on the web for any info on my grandparents home region and found it all fascinating. My dad got interested too- he could remember my grandparents talking of people mentioned in the stories on this site. I suppose there may be people still local who remember my grandparents, aunts and uncles. Any stories or memories would be interesting to hear of. My grandad moved to Yorkshire with the family in the 60s. His name was Richard (Holmes) and grandma was called Margaret (Wilson), the large family consisted of Richard, David, John, Peter, Paul, James, Helen and Margaret.

Hello, My name is Ann Bland, maiden name Riding. I am researching my family tree, and by means of various censuses, have gained quite a bit of information about the Riding family.  Can anyone tell me where Moorside is?  I would be interested to hear from any Riding still living in the village. My mother, who is almost 95, still lives in the village. My father was Thomas (Tom) Riding, and we used to live in Chapel Lane.
Many thanks in anticipation. Ann Bland, nee Riding.

Dear Sir/Madam

Sorry to bother you but I was wondering of you could help me.  When I was a child I lived at 179 Liverpool Old Road, at the time it was a business called 'Day Old Chicks' or nicknamed 'The Hatchery'.  Adjacent to the house was the site of a windmill.  Im not sure if you are aware but the house was haunted by the old miller.  I can vouch 100% as I saw him several times as did my father, visitors and people who lived across the road.  I was wondering if you have any information on the property as I have searched all over and cant even find it listed anywhere.  A few years back I visited the library an managed to get a photograph but its taken after the sails were dismantled.  The ghost Ily (that's what we nicknamed him) was a friendly one, he just wandered around like he still lived there.  He hated any alterations being done to the house though and I often travel past and I see there has been some serious refurbishment.  I wonder if he caused them any trouble HA HA.  I hope you do have maybe a little information on it, or even of the friendly ghost.

Yours sincerely
 Alexandra Linford

Hi, just having a rare browse through the site, saw folk moaning about lack of parish council minutes.
Av they got something to hide, is asked?
No they haven't.  Come down any time on the meeting nights, you'll be made most welcome.  You could even join in and give your tuppence worth.  Minutes are published a month in arrears to allow them to be approved and signed.  If you can't wait for them on the net, they are on hard copy in the Library.
When the next councillor vacancy comes up, put your name down for it and you too can get something done for the village!

Hi Longton and Andrew! You've made some improvements on here since my first visit last year about this time. But I do miss seeing the coments along side the black and whites of when, where, and what they are of. But, then I'm no website designer and this is one of the best I've seen. Returned to your site while continuing research on grandmother Sarah Elizabeth Foulkes nee.. Lawton of Longton. If anyone livlng in Longton can offer me any information on her parents,William and Elizabeth Lawton an e-mail would be greatly appreciated. Sarah Married in 1896 and emigrated to the US in 1904. William and Elizabeth were born abt.1850. Much thanks to all and have a wonderful day in a beautiful town..it's the kind all us "Yanks" would love to live in.

http://kickme.to/broadbandlongton Register your interest here Hello to everyone, Can you please take time out to register interest in broadband internet at www.btopenworld.com/broadband/reg10 It will explain more about it here. The reason being the Longton telephone exchange has not been upgraded to ADSL, which will provide broadband capabilty. Broadband provides a internet connection up to 40 times faster than a conventional modem. The exchange will only be upgraded to broadband capability when 400 people have registered there interest. Currently only 83 people have registered. The exchange serves Longton, Hutton, Much Hoole, New Longton and Walmer Bridge. With all these villagers being potential broadband subscribers I am hoping to bring to their attention the fact that the exchange has not and will not be upgraded until we have 400 registrants showing a 'potential' interest. Broadband will bring many benefits to the community it serves. Help us all out by taking time out to register and pass this mail onto any other internet users you know in this area (both friends and family) It takes less than 2 minutes and costs nothing to register your interest. We need another 317 people to register their interest. Thanks for your time. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Register your interest for Broadband here www.btopenworld.com/broadband/reg10 SORRY FOR THE LONG POST

Longton and Walmer Bridge are beautiful parts of the region. Before the "fat cat" developers destroy them , is there anybody else concerned enough in the future of the villages. Read the articles on traffic calming and other serious issues as these will become major issues in the future. Is it time to stop the rot? The Red Lion is not allowed a playground but the big developers get the rights to the whole area....lets get real.
